Description

BTMS-50 emulsifying wax has conditioning properties that standard emulsifying wax does not contain. Emulsifying wax is one of the essential ingredients in making lotions and creams.

Adding emulsifying wax to your recipe will keep the oil and water from separating by creating an emulsion between the oil and water and acting like a glue that will hold everything together.

Lotions and creams are created from a mixture of water and oils that would separate over time without the addition of emulsifying wax.

Ingredients: Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol

SDS Sheet

BTMS-50 is typically used at 1% to 10% in creams or lotions and 2% to 10% in conditioners.

For solid, water-free products like conditioner bars, usage can reach 60-65%.

General Usage Guidelines:

  • Lotions & Creams: 1%–10% (often 1–5% for light lotions, up to 15% for heavy creams).
  • Hair Care (Rinse-off): 2%–10%.
  • Hair Care (Leave-in): 1%–3% (up to 6% for intense, but usually lower for daily use).
  • Solid Conditioner/Shampoo Bars: Up to 60%–65%.
  • Oil Phase Percentage: Generally recommended to use at roughly 20-25% of the total oil phase to act as an emulsifier.

Key Tips:

  • Melting Point: 140 degrees F
  • Odor: Can produce a "fishy" smell if used at very high concentrations (>15%) in some formulations.

Compatibility: Excellent for creating soft, powdery, and non-greasy cationic emulsions.
