Description

Making your own foaming liquid soap is easier than you might think—and totally worth it! This foamy soap feels silky and luxurious on your skin, cleans effectively with gentle ingredients, and leaves your hands feeling soft instead of stripped. The best part? It’s fast and simple to make from scratch, so you can whip up a batch in no time with just a few skin-loving ingredients.

This recipe makes 8 oz., which fits perfectly into our foamer bottle.  Feel free to multiply the recipe out for larger batch sizes.  You can even make the recipe without fragrance or color and add them later.

You will need (8 oz.):

7.0 oz. Distilled Warm Water (88.1%)

0.2 oz. Vegetable Glycerin (2%)

0.1 oz. Preservative (Leucidal, Optiphen, or Germall) (.6%)

0.5 oz. Decyl Glucoside (6.2%)

0.2 oz. Cocomidpropyl Betaine (CAPB) (2.4%)

0.1 oz. Fragrance or Essential Oil (0.7%)

1-2 drops of color (if desired)

Now for the good part!  Gather all of the supplies and materials above first.

Phase A

  • 7.0 oz. Distilled Water
  • 0.2 oz. Vegetable Glycerin
  • 0.1 oz. Preservative - your choice (Optiphen, Germaben, Germall etc.)

Instructions:

  • Heat water to 170 degrees F
  • In the measuring cup - add glycerin and the preservative and mix well with a spatula.
  • Add the warm water and stir until thoroughly blended.

Phase B

  • 0.5 oz. Decyl Glucoside
  • 0.2 oz. Cocomidopropyl Betaine (CAPB)

Instructions:

  • Add each ingredient and stir slowly with the whisk to blend all ingredients.  Stirring slowly reduces bubbles.

Phase C

  • 0.1 oz. Fragrance or Essential Oil
  • 1-2 drops of Liquid Soap Coloring (if desired)
  • Instructions:
  • Add to the above ingredients and stir with the whisk until everything is blended.
  • Bottle when cool and leave uncapped for 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours cap and label your product.

Tips & Tricks:

Try using hydrosols instead of distilled water for a bit of botanical goodness. Replace 50% of the water with a hydrosol. You may not even have to add additional fragrance!

This recipe can be made in bulk batches and then scented and colored later.  Here is the recipe for making a gallon;

98.6 oz. Distilled water (88.1%)

5.1 oz. Vegetable Glycerin (2%)

1.3 oz. Preservative (0.6%)

15.4 oz. Decyl Glucoside (6.2%)

6.4 oz. Cocamidopropyl Betaine (2.4%)

1.3 oz. Fragrance or Essential Oil (.7%)

Have fun creating your own Foaming Hand Soaps!  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
