Description

Finally, an easy way to make liquid soaps that doesn’t require hours of cooking, stirring, and curing! The project uses surfactants derived from natural ingredients, so there are no harsh chemicals or sulfates. This is a basic recipe to be used as a starting point for your creations.

This soap leaves your skin feeling clean, and the scent that you choose will smell fantastic, too! The best part is that it’s fast and simple to make from scratch, so that you can whip up a batch in no time with just a few skin-loving ingredients.

This recipe makes 32 oz., which can be divided into several bottles. Feel free to split the batch so that you can color and scent each bottle differently for a bit of variety. You can also multiply the recipe for larger batch sizes.

Equipment Needed:

Heat source or tea kettle

Scale

Whisk

Spatula /Stirring spoons

Funnel

64 oz. bowl or measuring cup

16 oz. Measuring cup

Bottles & Caps or Pumps

Now for the good part!  Gather all of the supplies and materials above first.

Phase A

  • 0.6 oz. Vegetable Glycerin
  • 0.1 oz. Xanthan Gum
  • 19.1 oz. Distilled Water

Instructions:

  • Weigh glycerin and xanthan gum.
  • Add xanthan on top of the glycerin and disperse into the glycerin to make a thin paste.
  • Heat water to 170 degrees F
  • Stick blend the warm water and glycerin/xanthan until thoroughly blended and thicker.
  • Let cool and go to Phase B

Phase B

  • 0.3 oz. Preservative
  • 6.4 oz. Cocomidopropyl Betaine (CAPB)
  • 4.8 oz. Decyl Glucoside

Instructions:

  • Weigh each ingredient in a separate measuring cup (16 oz.) and stir gently with a whisk to blend.
  • Add Phase B to Phase A, stirring slowly and gently.  (Stirring slowly reduces bubbles and unwanted foam).

Phase C

  • 0.6 oz. Fragrance or Essential Oil
  • Liquid Soap Coloring (if desired)

Instructions:

  • Add fragrance and color to the above ingredients and stir slowly to blend.
  • Bottle when cool and leave uncapped for 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours cap and label your product.

Tips & Tricks:

Try using hydrosols instead of distilled water for a bit of botanical goodness. Replace 50% of the water with a hydrosol. You may not even have to add additional fragrance!

This recipe can be made in bulk batches and then scented and colored later.  Here is the recipe for making a gallon;

76.3 oz. Distilled water (59.6%)

0.5 oz. Xanthan Gum (0.4%)

2.6 oz. Vegetable Glycerin (2%)

1.3 oz. Preservative (1.0%)

19.2 oz. Decyl Glucoside (15%)

25.6 oz. Cocamidopropyl Betaine (20%)

2.6 oz. Fragrance or Essential Oil (2%)

Have fun creating your own liquid soaps!!  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
